Oleh Baran McGill University Using a lattice gas model for hydrodynamics which correctly incorporates statistical mechanics, we have modeled the phase equilibrium of two fluids. The model contains interactions which lead to a first order phase transition with a latent heat. We observe the effects of inertia at the interface between two fluids in thermodynamic equilibrium, such that the mean square width of an initially flat interface scales as t3/2 at long time t.
