strained heterogeneous media Mikko Haataja Centre for the Physics of Materials In this talk we will present and discuss some recent advances in modeling the nucleation, interaction and dynamics of dislocations in strained heterogeneous media using the phase-field method. The model allows one to study the competition between elastic and plastic responses in various systems, such as the stress relief mechanisms in strained thin films.
