Transport phenomena in heavy-ion reactions

Lijun Shi

McGill

I will briefly introduce transport theory for heavy-ion reactions and explain some common terminologies like nuclear equation of state and isospin dependent mean fields. Then I will discuss one recent hot topic - isospin dependent mean field. I calculated isospin transport coefficient in dense matter. The resulting isospin diffusion coefficient is sensitive to proton-neutron cross section and isospin dependent mean field. The isospin transport process is also simulated within a transport model (BUU), and results support stiff density dependence for the symmetry energy. I will also present some results from the spectator physics study, and show a paradox of spectator acceleration.
