Physics Prospects with ATLAS at the LHC

John Parsons

Columbia University

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will begin operation at CERN in 2005. With its high beam energy and large luminosity, the LHC will open significant new windows onto the unresolved questions of the Standard Model. The ATLAS detector has been designed to exploit the full physics potential of the LHC. The design and anticipated performance of ATLAS will be discussed. Selected physics channels both within and beyond the Standard Model will be presented as benchmarks of the ATLAS physics sensitivity.
