Dynamics of Granular Materials

Prof. Daniel C. Hong

Department of Physics
Lehigh University

In this talk, we first explore simple consequences of the excluded volume interaction of hard spheres and present a new theory of excited granular materials. We examine the statistics of weakly excited and dense granular materials, and develop a thermodynamic theory. We also present a solution of the Enskoq equation and discuss a strange phenomenon associated with it. Finally, we present a theory of granular convection based on two hydrodynamic models.
