3d gravity, SL(2,R) Chern Simons theory and Teichmuller TQFT

The three theories in the title are closely related and yet different. I will review what is known about these theories and how they are interrelated. I will then describe the application of TQFT surgery techniques to the computation of 3d gravity partition functions.
