How much do mathematicians understand about the AdS/CFT correspondence?

Alberto Enciso

ICMAT & CSIC

As is well nown, the AdS/CFT correspondence occupies a central position in modern Physics. What is sometimes forgotten is that it also presents very interesting challenges to mathematicians. In this talk we will discuss, in a nontechnical way, a few rigorous results that give mathematicians a hint of what the AdS/CFT correspondence is like. As we will see, for Euclidean signature even the simplest cases are only partly understood, while for Lorenztian signature essentially all the problems are wide open. Work in progress (joint with Niky Kamran) will be briefly discussed.
