HEP Theory Journal ClubCritical study of electroweak baryogenesis from light fermion sourcesBenoit LaurentMcGillElectroweak baryogenesis (EWBG) sourced by nonstandard CP-violating interactions of the Higgs boson with light fermions has been the subject of numerous studies using the VEV-insertion approximation (VIA). In this talk, I critically reassess the viability of these EWBG scenarios using the semiclassical (WKB) formalism, comparing it to the results obtained with the VIA. I present an analytical approximation that allows a systematic comparison of the two approaches, and show that the VIA generally predicts a baryon asymmetry that is orders of magnitude larger than the WKB formalism. I finally present a recent numerical study of EWBG scenarios sourced by the tau lepton within the singlet scalar extension, and quark mass mixing within the two Higgs doublet model.
